Howdy Do!

Well, hello out there! I'm so excited to share a sneak peek of this new site. This idea came from years of hearing marketing "geniuses" say, "This isn't your grandmother's...blah, blah, blah." and thinking how ridiculously silly and condescending that thought was.

Grandmother could craft circles around our asses. Seriously, people. Plus she looked a helluva lot better whilst doing it. I'm just sayin'.

I felt it was time someone stood up and reminded us all that we owe dear old ass kicking Grandma a huge debt of gratitude and if we don't start realizing the value of what creative people before us learned by lots of trial and error, that knowledge and the gifts it has to offer us will be lost. And if we lose that, those wonderful, soulful, yummy handmade gifts...we lose a lot.

What I think is funny, really, is this idea that there is a cut off date on creativity, ingenuity and style. That once we turn 30 or 40 or 50 or 60 or 70 or 80 or 90...our ideas aren't worth a hoot in a handbasket.

Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm fabulous 48 and just getting started, so y'all best look out!

Here's to a celebration of all things RETROFABULOUS! Crafts! Recipes! Fashion! Home Decor! Here's to discovering lost crafts and resurrecting great ideas. I'll share lots of goodies from my personal collection, insights from fellow vintage lovers, hopefully discoveries from you, gentle readers and together we'll all discover how to Live Handmade.

  3. Oh, yes! The only difference is that we have newer and sometimes better materials. My Mother made roses out of flour, crepe paper and then silk. All looked great. Then she made jewelry out of shells during WWII when regular costume jewelry was not available. She made enough money to buy a new vacuum cleaner. That is my kids

  7. Good for you Madge!

I started crafting for profit at age at 55 and am still going strong 10 years later. I hope to keep creating until the day I die.

  8. Yay, it's all in the mitochondrial DNA. If my grandma and my mama were not crafters, I would not be a crafter and neither would my granddaughter. Grandmothers RULE!
